I actually started this on Wednesday, so it’s not a whole, official week. Eh, close enough.

Let me start by saying how amazing this has been for me: This has been amazing for me! I have been wanting to hand write the Bible for years, and actually, years ago, I did start trying. I can’t remember much about it other than I probably thought it would make me cool and uber spiritual. I did want to do it because I love writing and funky notebooks and pretty paper and fun pens and just the whole idea of writing God’s word out in my own handwriting sounded so…breathtakingly romantic. Or something like that. Maybe I’m actually looking for the word DRAMATIC. Yeah, probably. ;)

Fast forward to more recently, Zoom!, and here we are, here I am, ready to take on this awesome adventure!

Wednesday was coming to a close. All were in bed and I, as usual, was still up. I was walking over to the couch thinking of what to do. Netflix? Eh, I’m kind of Netlixed out, I need a break. Read? I have TONS of books just waiting, begging me to set aside the time to read them…yeah, I’ll read. Read what? Oh man, how can I choose? I’ve been neglecting my Bible reading for a while now. I really should read that, if anything. Yeah, I’ll read that. Wait, what about the idea of writing the Bible out in a notebook? I know those notebooks are here somewhere…(digging in bags) found ‘em! Awesome, now for a pen. We have HEAPS of them, but I need a special one. I know, my OneVerse pen from the conference last year, seems fitting…

From here my thoughts darted all over the place. I grabbed my favorite Bible (a gift from my sweet friend An Ordinary Moms parents when I first became a Christian, it’s one of my treasures!), grabbed the notebooks and pen and started writing. There I was, actually sitting down and writing the words of my favorite, life-giving book. Words that have brought me so much encouragement, hope, understanding, instruction, wisdom, comfort…and it keeps giving. Where did I start, you may be wondering? Well, I decided I wanted to really read about the life of Jesus again, so, naturally, I started in the New Testament with the book of Matthew.

My pen flew across the pages. It was actually quite thrilling. I was even getting new revelations and insight into God’s Word! I didn’t realize just how much I would be blessed by such a small act. I kept writing and writing and writing…and then smiling and smiling and smiling. I finished up to the beginning of chapter 3 and called it a night. I felt tired, happy, accomplished.

Thursday was a long, warm day and I didn’t stay up as late. I was able to complete up to chapter 4 with great satisfaction and much sleepiness. I’ve been noticing that when I get up in the mornings, I’ve been wanting to pick that pen up, slap open that notebook and dive in to the next chapter. It’s as though a spark has ignited a new passion for the Word that has been dormant for some time now. I’ve had to tell myself to be calm and wait for the sweetness to come in the night when it’s quite and I’m all alone. In such a short time it has become a time of holy communion with the lover of my soul. Intimate, deep, gentle, restful…

*deep, happy sigh*

It makes me think of this in the Song of Solomon (2:10-16):
“Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away. For lo, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come…Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away! O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely…My beloved is mine, and I am his.”

What I’ve Discovered:

1. I still love to write.

2. I haven’t done it in so long it looks terrible.

3. I didn’t mind going through all the ‘begats’.

4. I really do love a good pen and cool notebook.

5. I won’t be the same person when I’m done, and I want that.

You see, that’s how God’s Word works. As we engage it, it engages us. As we partake of it as the bread of Life it’s meant to be for us, we are satisfied and filled. However, if we neglect satisfying our hunger for the Word, we stop being nourished and fed. We stay where we are because there’s nothing to change us into the likeness of Christ, the bread of Life, unconsumed, can not do it’s work, and we grow stale. If it’s been awhile, go find your bread, take it, eat it, taste it and see that the Lord is good!

Now, think of those who don’t even know there’s spiritual bread to eat. Think of the people who are only getting partial pieces because of the breakdown between languages. Think of the people who are translating the bread of Life, morsel by morsel for those waiting to taste a bite. They need us. We need them. We need to break the bread and pass it on to those who need to eat the Words of Life! It’s meant to be shared. Jesus came to be bread for us all. Let’s do what we can to share the bread with those in need!

Please stop by OneVerse & The Seed Company to find ways you can give a piece of bread to those who have none.

That first night as my pen flew across the pages it was actually thrilling. I was even getting new revelations and insight into God’s Word! I didn’t realize just how much I would be blessed by such a small act. I kept writing and writing and writing…and smiling. I finished up to the beginning of chapter 3 and called it a night. The next day the idea hamster was wide awake and spinning the wheel. As I was tweeting about it and sharing on Instagram I realized I could ask others to join me. That’s where this post came from. I had to come up with a clear proposal to get others on board. And here we are again. This post is the follow up to my commitment of posting a link-up for others to join in this community of sharing the progress of their journey.

I’m so glad you are here!!
